MAKE! DO!; WEEK1

“Make! Do!”  is a workshop that celebrate the world of making, your ideas, and tools to help share your handmade creations to the world.   There’s a growing movement of DIY enthusiasts, people who share instructions online about how to build things.  The worlds of home improvement, food, craft and science, knitting, jewelry, beauty, electronics, robots, music, and exercise are changing rapidly because of how the internet and new tools for sharing resources, instructions, and feedback are helping makers reach new generations and audiences.  This workshop is dedicated to YOU, who you are, and do what you love to do, and we will help you explore and make and most importantly share, focusing on methodology, techniques and approaches to documentation and instructions around making.
Usually when we think of production, we think of companies, patents, close source innovation, huge costs and secrecy.  The DIY movement is the exact opposite, focusing on low cost, open, transparent and easily replicated solutions.  This workshop will investigate and celebrate these trends.

We will be using tools such as writing, drawings, photography and video, and explore different platforms such as Instructables (http://www.instructables.com/) . Students will work on several class exercises to build up their skills that will culminate in the creation of a short featured project and instructions on queens museum website.

This is a production based workshop that focus on participation, group discussion, and will be visited frequently by guest speakers from key figures in the maker and open source / open hardware community.
