Make! Do!; Week 3

A lot of good thoughts came out from the discussion today with the workshop when we talked about  what we will make — if we can make anything we want”

There were many students here talked about senior care today,  and how to DIY to make projects such as a better wheelchair, cranes, that also preserve the dignity of people with disability.

Developing assistive technology for senior is something that we don’t often talk about.  But I think this could be an important subject for our workshop, and I’ve decided to spend more time in the next workshop to explore the possibility, projects, and what can be done.

Today at the workshop, each student showed their favorite instructions, or manual that they found in the last week — one is for making  rice ball wrap – Onigiri.  They are simple image instructions for making rice balls wrapped in dry seaweed.   Diana showed us her handmade scarf,  she even wrote down the steps for making her beautiful scarf!  Judi, who went to Taiwan recently,  took some notes on the cellphone charging kiosks in different countries in Asia and in the US.

Later in class, we discussed some of the craziest ideas we could come up with in less than 5 minutes.  After every students wrote down their crazy ideas, we had a group discussion about what we want to make.

Some crazy ideas  — A solar charger hat,  an eyewear that found illness and sickness in people, an anywhere door, a time machine, a bed that only produce good dreams, a hair cut machine, hand-free umbrella, programmable children that eat their lunches and take bath and clean up and also go to bed (it’s hard to explain), A table that makes food. A robot that does housework, A perfect wheelchair for disabled and elderly.
