Printmaking Club – Linocut Enthusiasts – Week 9

Printmaking Workshop
MONOTYPE INTRODUCTION – September 29th, 2024
Artist educator: Michelle Melo
Session 1

In the first session of the Printmaking Workshop, we introduced ourselves in English
and Spanish (this is a Bilingual Workshop). Our instructor started the class by asking
some questions that would guide its structure and content.
-What is Printmaking? / ¿Que es el Grabado?
-What do we know about Printmaking (printing)? / ¿Que sabemos acerca del Grabado?
-Where do you think we find printmaking around us? In our daily lives? / ¿En nuestra
vida cotidiana, donde podemos encontrar ejemplos de Grabado?
During the first part of the class, we learned that a Print is “…a work of Art made up of
ink on paper and existing in multiple examples,” according to the Department of Prints
and Illustrated Books at The Museum of Modern Art. We also learned the difference
between a Monotype and a Monoprint.
After Michelle’s brief explanation, we experimented with stencils using the gel plates.
The participants were very engaged with this process, and we saw great work.
Please remember that this class meets the last Sunday of the month.
