En esta quinta sesión de nuestro curso básico de Escultura, tuvimos la oportunidad de usar un material nuevo: Alginate.
Este material viene en polvo y hay que disolverlo con agua. La proporción a usar para preparar el NIVO Alginate mezclar 8 gramos de polvo con 20 mililitros de agua. Este material nos permite tener muestras más precisas del objeto a sacar el molde. Es muy flexible y fácil de usar.
En esta sesión usaremos pequeñas partes de nuestro cuerpo, como para experimentar el material. Posteriormente haremos proyectos más complejos orientados a la exposición que tendremos en Setiembre en el Museo de Arte de Queens.
Trabajamos en equipos: algunos alumnos trabajaron con Alginate haciendo pequeñas partes de sus cuerpos. Luego procedieron a hacer el vaciado de estos moldes con la mezcla de yeso en polvo, el cual también deberá de mezclarse con agua, para poder echarlo dentro del molde de Alginate.
Las proporciones a utilizar para la preparación del yeso, serán 2 partes de yeso, por 1 parte de agua.
Otros alumnos utilizaron la gasa enyesada para hacer moldes de sus manos. Y finalmente otros alumnos trabajaron haciendo vaciado de rostro, usando directamente el yeso sobre la cara del modelo.

In this fifth session of our basic Sculpture course, we had the opportunity to use a new material: Alginate.
This material comes in powder and you have to dissolve it with water. The proportion to use to prepare the Alginate NIVO mix 8 grams of powder with 20 milliliters of water. This material allows us to have more precise samples of the object to be taken out of the mold. It is very flexible and easy to use.
In this session, we will use small parts of our body, such as to experience the material. Later we will make more complex projects oriented to the exhibition that we will have in September at the Museum of Art of Queens.
We worked in teams: some students worked with Alginate making small parts of their bodies. Then proceeded to make the casting of these molds with the mixture of plaster powder, which must also be mixed with water, to pour into the Alginate mold.
The proportions to be used for the preparation of the plaster will be 2 parts of plaster, for 1 part of water.
Other students used the plaster to make molds of their hands. And finally, other students worked by emptying the face, using the plaster directly on the face of the model.
