We went for a field trip at Noguchi Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park. We were really welcome at the Noguchi Museum that let us do a self guided tour. We focused in comparing the work of Noguchi with Tom Sachs, on the temporary exhibition in view. Students analyzed the different ways of working of both artists, noticing that Noguchi works are made in stone by carving polishing and leaving some parts raw stone, the sculptures are abstract, minimal sometimes geometrical and sometimes organic shapes; while Tom Sacks uses construction materials to make figurative complex sculptures and bronze cast with reference the Japanese tea house and other everyday objects . The students also realized the similarities between the 2 artists that they work with the color of the materials itself and reveal how they build sculptures. After it we cross the street to visit Socrates Sculpture Park where they experience the process of my sculptural work as part of my Emerging Artist Fellowship. We used clay to make imprints of the architectural details of the park. Which terracota will be part of the sculpture that I am building. It was such an inspiring field trip!

Nós fomos a uma excursão no Noguchi Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park. O museu nos recebeu muito bem para uma visita visita guiada independent. Focamos em comparar o trabalho do Noguichi com o do Tom Sachs, que está com uma exposição temporária no museu. Estudantes analizaram as diferentes maneiras de trabalhar dos artistas, notando que Noguichi trabalha esculpindo em pedra, polindo e também deixando a pedra bruta, as esculturas são abstratas, minimas e as vezes geométrica as vezes orgânicas; enquanto Tom Sachs usa materiais de construção para fazer complexas esculturas figurativas e moldagem em bronze referenciando a casa de chá e outros materiais cotidianos. Os estudantes perceberam também as semelhanças entre os artistas, que trabalham com a própia cor dos materiais usados e revelam o processo em como eles constroem as peças. Depois da visita atravessamos a rua para ir no Socrates Sculpture Park onde eles experiênciaram o meu processo de escultura pois estou participando de uma bolsa para construir uma escultura. Nós usamos argila para fazer impressões de detalhes arquitetônicos encontrados no parque na qual a terracotta será parte da escultura que estou construindo. Foi uma visita muito inspiradora!
