Intro to Printmaking / Introducción al Grabado.
MONOTYPE – November 29th, 2022.
In the first session of the workshop: Intro to Printmaking. We introduced ourselves in English as well as Spanish. Our instructor started the class by asking some questions that would guide the structure and content of the class.
En la primera sesión del taller: Introducción al grabado. Nos presentamos tanto en inglés como en español. Nuestro instructor comenzó la clase haciendo algunas preguntas que guiarían la estructura y el contenido de la clase.

-What do we know about Printmaking (printing)?
¿Que sabemos acerca del Grabado?
-Where do you think we find printmaking around us? In our daily lives?
¿En nuestra vida cotidiana, donde podemos encontrar ejemplos de Grabado?
Then the class was divided into two parts. During the first part of the class, we learned that a Print is “…a work of Art made up of ink on paper and existing in multiple examples,” according to the Department of Prints and Illustrated Books at The Museum of Modern Art. We also learned the difference between Monotype and Monoprint and that making marks is drawing.
A continuación, la clase se dividió en dos partes. Durante la primera parte de la clase, aprendimos que un grabado es “…una obra de arte realizada con tinta sobre papel y que existe en múltiples ejemplares” según el Departamento de Grabados y Libros Ilustrados del Museo de Arte Moderno. También aprendimos la diferencia diferencia entre Monotipo y Monoprint, y que hacer marcas también es dibujar. Vimos muestras de marcas básicas: líneas y puntos.
We saw samples of essential marks: lines and dots. In the second part of the class, our instructor showed us how to make a Monotype using a Gel Printing Plate (Placa de Impresión de gel). She also demonstrated extending the ink on plexiglass using a soft rubber brayer. And finally, the participants had the opportunity of making their monotypes. The class was divided into two groups. It was teamwork since everybody took turns at every step of the process.
En la segunda parte de la clase, nuestro instructor nos mostró cómo hacer un monotipo utilizando una placa de impresión de gel. Placa de Impresión de gel. También demostró cómo extender la tinta sobre un plexiglás utilizando un pincel de goma blanda. Y finalmente los participantes tuvieron la oportunidad de hacer sus propios monotipos. La clase se dividió en dos grupos. Fue un trabajo en equipo ya que todos todos se turnaron en cada paso del proceso.
